What to Know Before Your Dog’s Grooming Appointment
Dog grooming tips from our wonderful salon staff and salon manager, Errienne Floden
At Collars Dog Resort, our grooming team’s promise is simple: every dog gets the individual time and care they need. To help us provide the best possible experience for you and your pup, here are a few important reminders, dog grooming tips and requests from our salon staff.

Drop-Off & Timing
Our standard drop-off window is 7:00–10:00 a.m. If you need to arrive later, please call ahead to let us know — the latest we can accept clients without prior communication is 10:30 a.m.
We understand that clients love to request pickup times, and we always do our best to accommodate. However, pickup times are not guaranteed unless you specifically communicate that need with our lobby or grooming staff — ideally by phone before or during drop-off.
If you’ve opted for a “text when ready” update, please keep in mind that your dog could be finished anytime between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. You’re welcome to call during the day for an estimate, but we ask that you wait until you’ve received a text before coming in.
When multiple dogs request the same completion time, we prioritize based on first come, first served — typically starting with the dogs who arrived earliest.
Pickups & Special Requests
Please do not arrive early for pickup unless you’ve been notified your dog is ready. Early arrivals can add stress for both groomers and dogs. If we anticipate running behind, we’ll send you a text update.
We also ask that clients only select “ASAP” when it’s truly needed. These requests prompt our team to move those dogs to the front of the line, which can delay others and result in dogs waiting in the back longer than necessary. “As soon as possible” to us means “as soon as the dog allows” — we’ll always prioritize your dog’s comfort over speed.
Communication & Care
We take pride in following your grooming instructions closely. If something isn’t quite right, let us know! We’re happy to make adjustments — just remember, we can always go shorter, but we can’t add hair back.
If your dog has any known behavioral issues, injuries, or medical concerns, please inform our lobby staff during drop-off so we can ensure your groomer is aware. Likewise, if we notice anything unusual (like a new bump or hot spot), we’ll let you know right away.
Our Philosophy: Humanity Over Vanity
Our groomers will never perform a service that isn’t in your dog’s best interest. For example, we will not shave down double-coated breeds such as Huskies or Labs — doing so can damage their coat and affect their comfort.
We accept dogs of all temperaments and do our best to work with them compassionately and patiently. Our goal is to make grooming a positive experience, every time.
Building Lasting Relationships
Whenever possible, we keep dogs paired with the same groomer to maintain consistency and trust. If you’d like to stick with a specific groomer, you’re welcome to request that at scheduling.
Because our salon stays very busy, groomers aren’t always able to come out personally after each appointment — but if you’d like to speak with your groomer directly, just let our lobby team know and we’ll do our best to arrange it.

Exit Baths & Coat Condition
We only offer exit baths for dogs whose coats are in good condition. If your dog arrives matted, impacted, or with debris in their coat, we’ll contact you and may recommend a full-service bath instead for their comfort and safety.
We’re Here to Educate
We love helping owners learn about their dogs’ coats and grooming needs! Whether you want tips for brushing at home or have questions about specific services, our team is always happy to share advice — in person, by phone, or via text.
Our goal is transparency and trust. We’ll always be truthful about your dog’s behavior and grooming progress — not just tell you they “did great” to make you happy. This honesty helps us work together to ensure your dog stays happy, healthy, and looking their best.
